Veteran hospitalist, Jeanette Abell, MD, MBA, joins practice management team
February 2, 2009 – WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Halley Consulting, a national practice management and consulting firm, has selected Jeanette Abell, MD, MBA, as its newest practice consultant. Abell will head up the hospitalist service line for Halley Consulting. She has an extensive background specializing in the formation and development of hospitalist programs.
“Expanding our practice management consulting to include hospitalists was a natural extension for Halley Consulting,” says Marc Halley, president and chief executive officer, Halley Consulting. “Hospitalists are the fastest growing medical specialty in the U.S., and we are confident Jeanette’s 15 year history and success in the field, coupled with other members of the Halley team, will provide hospitals with the clinical and administrative know how to successfully implement and manage hospitalist programs.”
A board certified internal medicine physician, Abell has held clinical and administrative responsibility for multiple hospitalist programs for hospitals ranging in size from 140 to 800 beds. She has also managed a hospitalist program for a large primary care physician organization with more than 140 providers. Her experience includes merging two hospitalist practices to create a large inpatient physician service which grew 400 percent during her tenure. She was active in medical staff leadership at hospitals and has served as the section head for internal medicine. She was also the medical director for a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility.
Prior to joining Halley Consulting, Abell’s specific background includes serving as a regional medical director for a national hospital management company, as a physician administrator of the hospitalist division for Central Ohio Primary Care Physicians, as co-creator and president of Hospital Physicians of Ohio, Inc. and as a hospitalist for Clinical Cardiology Specialists, Inc. Abell earned her Doctor of Medicine from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and completed her Master of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
“Hospitals large and small will benefit from Jeanette’s knowledge and passion for excellence in hospitalist services,” Halley adds.
The Halley team assists hospitals in the assessment and development of hospitalist service lines including recruitment and retention of physicians, hospitalist compensation models, pro forma development, and revenue cycle management.
In 2008, Halley Consulting provided interim management services for networks of primary care and multispecialty practices owned by hospitals located in several states. They provided a variety of planning, development and evaluation services on a consulting basis for numerous hospital-owned medical practices and networks ranging in size from 8 to 180 physicians.
